FROM THE 18th CENTURY

About

The predecessor of one of the oldest cemeteries – still currently in use – of Tallinn was the former Russian Orthodox Cemetery that was founded in 1775, and which was later united with Estonian Vana-Kaarli Cemetery and Defence Forces Cemetery, Jewish, Muhammad and Polish cemeteries. There are several graves of cultural importance, for example the triangular grave monument of poet Igor Severjanin (1887-1941) next to the gate, the resting place of Jaan Poska (1866-1920) – one of the key figures of Estonian independence – and his family, and composer Peeter Süda’s (1883-1920) gravestone with a bust.
Guided tours on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 pm. Meeting at the front gate (Herne street).
