About

The Olympic Games of 1980 obliged the Soviet Union to invest into communication and technology, which is why the 314 meters high TV tower was established in Tallinn from 1975 to 1980. In terms of engineering it was a complicated construction that had to be built in short time, thus the designing and planning was taken over by the specialists of Ministry of Communication from Moscow. The height of the reinforced concrete structure of the tower is 190 meters (23 floors) on top of which is sitting the 124 meters high metal mast. In the center of the lower part of the tower, on the 21st floor there is a restaurant and an observation platform with glass walls.
The core of the concrete tower is housing technological equipment, administrative offices and the observation station of the weather station.
