Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Quick to Hearken” of Tallinn was established on the high bank of Lasnamäe as the result of an architectural competition in 2005.
The competition was won by Oleg Žemtšugov and his Belarus colleagues Nikolai Djatko and Jevgeni Kolomenkin.
The building with a 36-meters high central dome firstly associates with Byzantine legacy and the architectural design characteristic to Kiev and Russia, but yet has been constructed of concrete characteristic to modern architecture. The circular movement, the repetitive round motifs of the icons and the blissful glow under the domes help to create an atmosphere where the prayers feel themselves close to God.
