RECONSTRUCTION 1832, CHRISTIAN MEYER

About

In 1718 the construction of summer castle in the vicinity of Tallinn began following the order by Russian Tsar Peter the Great. There were rotundas at the both ends of the park surrounding the castle, of which only the pavilion of the lower garden has been preserved. The rotundas, that were not heated, were used for resting and drinking tea after walking in the park and at the seaside. The rotunda was rebuilt after Nicholas I of Russia visited Kadriorg. The building was renovated following Classicist style by Christian Meyer. At the time the building was mainly used for hosting visitors. During the Soviet period here were the restauration workshops of the art museum. Currently there is an information center in the rotunda where one can see the model of the Baroque garden.
Guided tours on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 pm. We will be visiting the Warden’s House, Guardhouse and the Rotunda. Meeting in front of the information desk at Weizenbergi 33.
